About
A budgie who got his head through the bars
King of Birds is a sole proprietorship based in Hyderabad, Telangana, operating online as Sotira District (sotiradistrict.shop).
How this started
A budgie in Hyderabad, a cage bought online because it was the right size and a good price, and one evening spent working his head through the bars and being unable to get it back. He was fine. It was luck.
The listing had given a height and a width and no bar spacing at all — the one measurement that decides whether a small bird can get its head through. Nobody sets out to sell a dangerous cage. They simply do not print the number.
Height and width sell the cage. Bar spacing is the number that keeps the bird alive.
Our commitment
Bar spacing on every cage
Printed on the listing, in millimetres, with the species we would and would not use it for.
Perch diameter, not just length
A perch of one thickness all the way along causes foot problems. We list diameter and stock varied-width and natural-branch perches.
No zinc, no fraying rope
Zinc and galvanised fittings are toxic to birds, and rope that unravels into loops catches claws. Neither is stocked here at any price.
Our story
The range is short and every cage in it has been assembled here at least once, because you learn more in twenty minutes of building one than from any specification sheet — whether the door latch can be worked open by a clever beak, whether the tray actually slides out with the bird inside.
We sell equipment and feed, never live birds. Anything alive should be bought where you can see it, from somebody who can tell you its age and history.
Online only
There is no showroom and no walk-in counter. Sotira District trades entirely online and ships across India from Hyderabad, Telangana, which keeps overheads off the price of the goods.
